OVERVIEW
Lizzie Gleason was from County Tipperary Ireland. Her parents were Michael Gleason and Kathryn (or Catherine) Cusar (or Cisar). She had at least 2 sisters and 8 brothers. Of her 10 siblings, at least 7 immigrated to America over a span of about 10 years:
Hannah (or Anna) Irwin
Mary Dillon
Martin
William
James
Dan
John
They came as young adults and settled in Joliet. Three brothers remained in Ireland: Thomas, Joseph and Michael. Source: obituary
Lizzie immigrated in 1884 and married John J. O'Connell in 1886. They had two children, Josephine Elizabeth Newberry Klein (1888-1962) and William Francis O'Connell Sr. (1889-1952). They were married four years then John deserted her in December 1890. They divorced in 1892.
She was illiterate and signed her name with an X on her divorce petition from John.
She ran a boarding house on N. Chicago Street near the Orpheum Theater. Her sister Mary Dillon also ran a boarding house behind the theater.
Lizzie stayed in Joliet and married Henry J. Young. They had no children. It appears they split up before mid-1900 (he died in late 1900).
In 1906 she married Andrew Jerome Cody Jr. They had no children and lived in Joliet.
She died in Joliet in 1924 from pernicious anemia from liver cancer. Cody died in Joliet in 1944.
